NBA Free Agency: Indiana Pacer Free Agents

Here are the players on the Indiana Pacers roster that could end up with a different team in 2013-2014.  I will give out my thoughts on what happens to each player.

RESTRICTED- means the Pacers could match an offer from another team to keep the player

Ben Hansbrough

I think Ben Hansbrough probably ends up with an offer from the Pacers.  They might end up short on the point guard position, so it might be out of necessity to keep him around.

Tyler Hansbrough

I do believe Tyler Hansbrough is gone.  He’s stated that he wants more minutes and more playing time, so I think that means he’ll find that team that will give him that.  If I am the Pacers, I would possibly look to match if the money is right.  Hansbrough does bring that level of intensity and hustle that a team would love to keep around.  But he doesn’t do enough offensively to make him that much of a threat on that end of the floor.  He can get rebounds and get to the foul line.  But his shot really disappeared over the season, and i believe we’ll see him with a different uniform next season.

Jeff Pendergraph

Look for Jeff Pendergraph to get some offer from the Pacers, and I believe he’ll become the back up power forward if the Pacers can’t find that available free agent to bring in. I think the Pacers can keep Pendergraph around on the cheap end, so why not do that?

UNRESTRICTED- free to sign with another team

D.J. Augustin

Augustin is a goner.  He never lived up to the expectations here in Indiana. I think he’ll look for another team, and the Pacers will have to look for that right back up point guard here.  He had a good stretch of games when he started.  So that could be where he ends up with a team that needs some starting point guard.  I don’t know if many teams will give Augustin a look after his dismal season here though.  He might be searching for a team throughout the summer.

David West

Resign. Resign. Resign.  There’s no doubt David West needs to stay with the Indiana Pacers even at the higher price tag.  He’s such a valuable member of this team, that the Pacers could take a step back if he’s not back.  I think West wants to be here, so that could be it an easier process.  Just don’t know what he expects money wise, and if that could hurt the Pacers in other moves.  But keeping these starters in tact is important, and that will play a big factor.  Look for West to be back in the Blue and Gold next season.

Sam Young

I don’t see Young on the Pacers next season, and I don’t even know if a team will pick him up.  Which means maybe the Pacers pick him up during the season like last year when they knew they wouldn’t have to pay him as much.  Young just didn’t do anything particularly well here in Indiana. I thought he held his own on defense at times.  But everything just fell flat, and the Pacers will be fine when he walks away to another team.
