Post-Game Grades: Pacers Come Up Short in Brooklyn

The Good: The Indiana Pacers offensive outburst in the second quarter. After falling into a deep, dark, despicable hole early, they were able to completely turn the game around by scoring a remarkable 39 second-quarter points. Everything was working and they entered halftime with all the momentum.

Their shot chart over those 12 minutes was a work of art.

The Bad: You simply cannot start or close a game as poorly as the Pacers did when your season is on the line. After the Pacers took a 7-0 lead out of the gates, Brooklyn destroyed Indiana by going on a 33-8 run for the the next 9:22. Then, at the end, after the Pacers clawed back into the game on several occasions, they trailed by just 3 with 2:11 to go. But they couldn’t get a decent look off again for the rest of the night — going scoreless for the next two minutes — and lost a must-win game by 5. It was an otherwise decent outing bookended by disgrace.George Hill summed it up best after the game.

MVP: George Hill, per always.

LVP: Roy Hibbert got his ass kicked by Brook Lopez, shot 3-for-11, managed 3 rebounds in 20 minutes, and airballed a 3-pointer in crunchtime. They won’t be sending this game tape to Springfield.

X Factor: Alan Anderson was great off the bench for the Nets, playing good D and scoring 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting. Damjan Rudez was a huge difference maker for the Pacers, making 5-of-6 shots overall and scoring 10 of his 12 points in the all-important second quarter while sparking the offense.

Recap | Box Score
111Brooklyn Nets
David West, PF 27 MIN | 4-10 FG | 6-7 FT | 6 REB | 6 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 14 PTS | -6 +/-

Typical 2015 David West: Trash early on before finding some adrenaline and making things happen later in the game as a crucial member of the attack. 6 assis

Solomon Hill, SF 34 MIN | 3-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 9 PTS | +9 +/-

Did fine. Hit 3s.

Roy Hibbert, C 20 MIN | 3-11 FG | 1-1 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 3 BLK | 1 TO | 7 PTS | +1 +/-

Couldn’t have picked a worse time for this stinker.

George Hill, PG 32 MIN | 10-17 FG | 4-5 FT | 6 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 28 PTS | -22 +/-

Six of his points did come after the game was decided on desperation, meaningless 3s that went in, but he also scored 12 points in the third quarter to help ensure the team could go into the final period within striking distance.

C.J. Miles, SG 6 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 0 PTS | -7 +/-

Sprained his ankle early and didn’t come back except for one short stint.

Luis Scola, PF 21 MIN | 4-10 FG | 5-5 FT | 9 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 13 PTS | +1 +/-

Might be better than David West these days.

Lavoy Allen, PF 15 MIN | 2-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 4 PTS | +8 +/-

Lots of misses, not too many boards. What would ya say, ya do here?

Damjan Rudez, SF 19 MIN | 5-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 12 PTS | +21 +/-

Beast. He’s going to be a good NBA contributor.

Ian Mahinmi, C 13 MIN | 1-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 2 PTS | -17 +/-

Didn’t exactly shut down the paint after Hibbert proved unable to.

Rodney Stuckey, PG 25 MIN | 1-8 FG | 1-2 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 4 PTS | -21 +/-

YIKES.

C.J. Watson, PG 28 MIN | 4-5 FG | 3-4 FT | 6 REB | 6 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 13 PTS | +8 +/-

Carrying a lot of water these days and was wonderful all over the court vs. his former team.
