Haliburton needs to continue to play a little more “selfish” on the basketball court.

One of the biggest knocks to Tyrese on the basketball court is that he often isn’t looking for his spot and is a pass-first point guard. And I don’t think that’s a bad thing. One of Haliburton’s greatest strengths is court vision and manipulating a defense with his passing and eye direction. But he has to become more than that if he wants to transcend his current positioning in the league.

Haliburton has a needle to thread, that’s a sure thing. He needs to find a way to better look for his own shot while also maintaining his constant looking for others. He needs to better integrate himself into his mental model of how the basketball court is working. When he does that, he will truly be onto something.

We love Tyrese Haliburton, let’s just say it. If he doesn’t get an ounce better over the next offseason, he is still an All-Star and one of the best point guards in the NBA. But if he wants to take the next step to become one of the best PLAYERS in the NBA, these are three things that should be on his mind when he thinks about offseason improvements.
