Indiana Pacers: 3 teams to avoid in any Myles Turner trade
The Indiana Pacers should avoid the Knicks’ could-be redundant trade offer for Myles Turner
I’ve been seeing some mock trades on the New York Knicks possibly making a move on Myles Turner, which is far from surprising given how well the big man could fit into Tom Thibodeau’s intricate defensive schemes. New York has not resembled last season’s scrappy defensive unit at all, but the pieces are still there for them to make a turnaround on that department, especially with Turner at the helm.
However, despite the fantasies of Knicks fans, striking a deal with the Indiana Pacers to entice the latter into trading Turner is difficult. New York only has two players who directly matches salaries with Turner in Julius Randle and Evan Fournier. Randle has declined a great deal from last season and probably won’t be made available, and Fournier has not lived up to his contract.
Sweetening the pot with Mitchell Robinson, a common name in Pacers trade scenarios, will be counterintuitive for the very reason why Indiana could trade Myles, which is to embrace a small-ball approach
That leaves the Knicks with the option of pairing two of Alec Burks, Kemba Walker, and Nerlens Noel (since Derrick Rose) isn’t leaving Thibodeau’s side anytime soon. Meh. Cross New York off the list.
