Romeo Langford could be packaged to the Indiana Pacers

The Boston Celtics have already been busy this offseason, trading Kemba Walker‘s contract to the Thunder and leaving a massive hole in their backcourt. Malcolm Brogdon, who has battled some injuries with the Pacers, is a candidate to replace Walker in Boston this summer. For Indiana, striking a deal with Boston that would provide enough value in return is going to be tricky.

The Celtics are not going to part with Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown in order to add another starting-caliber player but they could dangle Marcus Smart and draft picks to entice a deal. Smart is the heart and soul of the Celtics and trading him would be tough but if they view Brogdon as a necessary piece to get over the hump, they have to do it.

A trade with Indiana would require more than just Smart, so throwing in Romeo Langford and future draft picks might be enough to get a deal done. The Pacers may be more interested in trading Brogdon if they make another move this summer to add a new point guard.

The value for the Pacers here would not be ideal but they could work around a deal for Brogdon to Boston with a third team if they desire. Langford has not been great in the NBA through two seasons but he shined in the playoffs this past season. He started twice for the Celtics and averaged 9.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in their series loss to the Nets.

In his final appearance of the season, Langford scored 17 points in 38 minutes in an elimination game while also adding two blocks, two steals, and shot 3-of-7 from deep.

Verdict: Langford is not the center of a trade but he could be a nice throw-in for the right deal
