The Indiana Pacers will have a lot of sign-and-trade opportunities involving sniper Doug McDermott

Although forward Doug McDermott is expected to receive lucrative offers in free agency, the Indiana Pacers have his Bird rights, meaning that the team can exceed the salary cap to re-sign him. Hence, the summer outlook for the 6’7 sniper is still very well in the hands of the Blue and Gold.

With the influx of teams needing high-volume three-point shooting in the league, McDermott should be high on many teams’ radars. After all, the seven-year veteran registered career-highs across the board in the recently concluded season to the tune of 13.6 points per game in just 24.5 minutes. However, his niche as a three-point shooter, at 40.7 percent for his career, will be what rewards him with a generous offering in the summer.

If the Pacers deem him to be too expensive to keep, they can still opt to sign him and then trade him to another team to maximize incoming assets. After all, his microwave scoring and constant player movement will instantly galvanize any team’s offense, especially in the second unit.
