Indiana Pacers free agent target: Alec Burks, New York Knicks

After injury-marred seasons early in his career in Salt Lake City, veteran Alec Burks has been on an upwards scale since, averaging double digits in scoring in his last two full seasons. As a Knick, he’s been one of New York’s most pivotal pieces in the team’s emergence, with Tom Thibodeau deploying as a de facto seventh man on the roster.

With season averages of 12.7 points per game on 41.5 percent three-point shooting, Burks is due for a salary raise. While the New York Knicks can offer him an ample offer, they may find their massive cap space to be more valuable for hunting big names in future seasons. His market value can easily go in the 8-10 million range, and if Indy can hash out something near to those figures, then he may be enticed to move to the Circle City.

The 6’6 swingman is known more as a volume scorer, but his resuscitation on defense under Thibs’ guidance makes him a switchable defender from 1-3. And with McDermott and Lamb facing sizeable odds of leaving town, Burks can be a seamless bench replacement.
