What should the Indiana Pacers do with their unrestricted free agents?
Justin Holiday
Justin Holiday came to the Pacers at the last minute of the offseason with fans having low expectations of him like they did with JaKarr Sampson. Man, did he shatter expectations and become one of the most important Pacers on the season? In my opinion, Justin Holiday was a Top-five most impactful player for the Pacers last season and I don’t think that is a very hot take.
Justin’s impact goes way beyond the stats with his pure defensive ability and flexibility on that end, being able to guard the two through four. He doesn’t disappear on the offensive side of the ball which leads to his impact being so great.
Holiday was such a reliable shooter last season, raising his three-point percentage to 40.5 percent on the season. He also has the ability to attack on some closeouts and either attack the rim or pull up for a mid-range jumper.
Justin was also a big part of the leadership of this team. He was the oldest guy on this young team so he had to step in as a leader. I think it would also be fair to say that Justin probably had a very positive impact on his brother Aaron Holiday.
It could go either way for Aaron Holiday, either he was just more confident having his older brother on the roster or it was the first year to second-year leap. It could also be both but I think Justin had a great impact on it.
Hopefully, the rumors are true that retaining Justin Holiday is a top priority because I’d love to have him back on the team. Justin is going to get some decent offers thrown at him on the open market but it seemed like he really enjoyed his first season in Indiana. Maybe he’ll take a discount, especially with the cap space decreasing due to Covid-19.
