Signing Tyreke Evans to a One-Year deal

A picture can speak a thousand words like the one above. Eurostep Evans, a name that can haunt Pacers fans just at the thought. Tyreke Evans was brought to the Pacers after a great season where he averaged 19.4 points on the Grizzlies.

The Pacers had a great season prior to finishing fifth in the East at 48 wins. They thought with a year of playoff experience that a sixth-man like Tyreke Evans could raise the ceiling of the team and take them to a new level. In theory, it was a great signing and I remember Pacers fans rejoicing when it happened, but Tyreke Evans just didn’t execute – more words that haunt Pacer fans.

During his one-year deal, he missed jumpers, missed layups, and eurostepped the Pacers out in the first round via sweep. Along with the first-round loss, Tyreke lost his place in the league after a two-year ban for drug use, maybe an explanation for his lackluster play?

The grade for this one is confusing to come up with because there are things to weigh into it: Tyreke’s terrible play and the risk of ruining chemistry but you also have to look at the positives in that it was only a one-year deal and that it was a great signing at the time that was supposed to boost the ceiling of the team.

Grade: C (Average grade because you have to weigh the positives and negatives)
