Pacers focus in Orlando: Fit in the front court?

The front court is extremely questionable in Indianapolis. It’s been clear that the team would move on from either Myles Turner or Domantas Sabonis if an appropriate offer presented itself.

Before last offseason, the team even told Turner that he should work on his post game, not his 3-point shooting.

When he arrived at training camp, he was told he should shoot more threes. This year he’s attempted around 44 percent of his shots beyond the arc, up from around 25 percent last year, a massive jump that has caused a world of trouble for his offensive game.

Perhaps that was a signal the team thought he would be without Sabonis and that his role was expected to be in the post.

These days, Turner seems like the more likely one to get traded as Sabonis has grown into his own this season. We have a whole offseason ahead of us to see where that narrative goes, but the team can’t even make a trade until after this season anyway.

While they still can, it’s a great time to see how the duo performs together on the floor. Can they continue to show promise as they did at certain points this season? Or, with heightened expectations and stakes, do they fall flat on their face?

Whichever way they go will be telling for how the team should build moving forward and if they should decide to make a trade this offseason. It’s one of the biggest things the team needs to watch.
