Scenario #5: Phoenix lands the top pick

It may not be true, but it feels like the Phoenix Suns haven’t been relevant for about 75 years. This scenario would change that, at least for a few months. The Suns are another crazy young team, but there are no rumors that would suggest they’re looking to trade for a more established star to pair with Devin Booker.

This scenario, if Boston and Los Angeles come in second and third, could potentially foster an environment conducive to a Paul George trade. Neither the Celtics or Lakers would have the top pick, so they might be more open to offering their pick in exchange for George. Moreover, having both of them at the table could even create a bidding war of sorts. It may not be likely, but it’s far from impossible with this setup.

It feels mean to say, but Phoenix winning the lottery could trigger a chain of events that causes all of us to forget about Phoenix winning the lottery. Markelle Fultz could head to Phoenix, never to be spoken of again until he drops 70 on the Celtics. Meanwhile, Lonzo Ball or Josh Jackson could maybe, just maybe wind up in Indiana.

Next: Let's stop talking about Gordon Hayward

There are countless other possibilities to explore, but not for much longer. Check back here for the lottery results and all the draft coverage you’ll need.
