After The Malice at the Palace, Ron Artest was suspended for the remainder of the season, losing $4,995,000 in salary. He then demanded a trade the next season.

After the Indiana Pacers granted his request in a trade for Peja Stojakovic, Artest played with the Sacramento Kings for a time. Then the Houston Rockets, and the Los Angeles Lakers (where he won a championship in 2010) and the New York Knicks. The fact he, after changing his name to Metta World Peace, won a championship and Reggie Miller never did will never sit well with some Pacers fans. (He did raffle that championship ring for charity that helps raise awareness for mental health issues, if that makes those Pacers fans feel any better.)

As for The Brawl, he has declined comment of late, as he is releasing a book, “The Untold Story of the Malice at the Palace.”

But the Queensbridge native’s playing career isn’t over: World Peace currently plays for Sichuan Blue Whales in the Chinese Basketball Association. He now wants to be known as The Panda’s Friend and wears tiny pandas on his shoes when he plays. He’s open to the idea of coming back to Indiana to help the Pacers win a championship.
