One trade between the Indiana Pacers and LA Clippers to solve both teams’ woes

In this one-on-one swap, the Indiana Pacers send center Daniel Theis to the LA Clippers for veteran forward Robert Covington.

Theis, Indiana’s offseason acquisition through the Malcolm Brogdon trade last summer, has yet to log a single minute this season due to a knee injury. A serviceable big man with ample playoff experience, the German big man, when healthy, is a good role player who provides stable interior defense and mobility from the center position.

On the flip side, Robert Covington has been buried in the Clippers’ deep wing rotation. Still, the former All-Defensive Team cog remains an above-average defender who thrives in help positions, and a tenable volume three-point shooter with enough veteran presence to serve as another locker room leader.

Why should both teams do this deal? Let’s take a deeper look.
