Domantas Sabonis

Domantas Sabonis has flashed the potential to be the best player on the Pacers this season. What remains on his contract after this season is four years and $77 million.

Though some fans might have had reservations about offering him such a large extension prior to this season, especially with quality two-way big man Myles Turner already on the roster, Sabonis has proven himself worth it every step of the way.

Accepting of a role that places him with a variety of different lineups on any given night, Turner has shown a propensity to play a physical paint-focused offensive game while sharpening things up on the defensive end night in and night out. He’s shown he can be the focal point of an offense if need be, and looks to be a blend of some of the association’s greatest big men.

Sabonis is making less than $20 million over the next four seasons with the Pacers and could very well ascend to the point where he’s worth far more. Already making his first career All-Star game this season, he’s well on his way to being a $25 million-plus type player, and the fact that the Pacers have him secured on this contract for a number of years is great news.

Of the players that signed rookie-scale extensions prior to this season, Sabonis’s was the fourth-cheapest, yet he posted the second-highest player efficiency rating of that group (just 0.1 behind Ben Simmons), showing the value his money has within a smaller subset of his peers as well.
