Indiana Pacers: 4 most underrated players on the roster
By Josh Wilson
Domantas Sabonis is one of the most overlooked stars in the league
Sure, Domantas Sabonis is an All-Star this season. Sure, he might even get a second or third-team All-NBA nod this year. Those are great nods, but I believe he’s better than that.
He’s still criminally underrated on the national level. There are six centers that rank in the top-12 in both points and rebounds per game this year, Sabonis is one of them. Of those six, only Nikola Jokic (6.9 assists per game) and Sabonis average more than 5.0 assists per game, too.
He averages 18.5 points and 12.4 rebounds. When you consider the 12.6 assist points he creates, he accounts for over 30 of the Pacers points per night.
Sabonis has been the offensive foundation for a team that ranks fifth in the Eastern Conference without its best player for most of the season. He has taken a major leap this year and been one of the main reasons the team is afloat.
While he deserves it, you’ll never see him discussed by any of the talking heads on national sports talk shows. Indy knows he’s great, but he is still extremely overlooked on the NBA-wide level.
