Who is going to be the Indiana Pacers next coach?

If you ask Larry Bird who is going to be the next coach of the Indiana Pacers, his answer right now is that he doesn’t know either.

According to the Indy Star’s Candace Buckner, Bird says the search hasn’t formally begun.

"Larry Bird may have a “list” of potential coaches for the Indiana Pacers, but he’s not revealing it to anyone — including the candidates. On Thursday when asked about progress of the coaching search, Bird, Pacers president of basketball operations, said: “Haven’t started yet.”Bird and a front-office contingent are in Chicago for the NBA draft combine. Flanked by general manager Kevin Pritchard, director of scouting Ryan Carr and vice president of basketball operations Peter Dinwiddie among others, Bird spent several hours watching 5-on-5 action inside the Quest Multisport gym."

Bird went on to say he has nothing else to say about the situation, but that general manager Kevin Pritchard has talked to agents for coaches.

Of course, Bird may just be saying this to avoid further questions. For all we know, he may have already made up his mind, and the list may not even exist.

One of the coaches that may or may not be on Bird’s list or Pritchard might talk to is former Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornacek, according to CBS Sports’ Ken Berger.

So while the Pacers haven’t started their coaching search yet — but have a list — Hornacek’s name is being thrown around now as well as a potential hire.

I have no idea what Larry Bird is doing either.

In other coaching related news, the Pacers no longer have the services of international scout Pete Philo, who is stepping down to focus on his own business ventures according to Scott Agness of Vigilant Sports.

"Pete Philo, their Director of International Scouting for the past three years, has moved on, league sources informed VigilantSports.com.Philo can now focus on his growing business, TPG Sports Group, which has put on successful events like the Pro Scout School, Sports Agent School, and Sports Tank (yes, similar to Shark Tank).Philo was hired in the summer of 2013 after working for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He also previously played an important role in putting on the annual pre-draft EuroCamp in Treviso, Italy.Philo, who led the way with scouting overseas, has previously been in the war room on draft night. It’s likely that overseas scout Aleksandar Pajovic will pick up the extra workload. The team’s scouting department consists of nine individuals, according to the staff directory."
