Danny Granger was drafted by the Indiana Pacers on June 28, 2005. For 8 years, 7 months, and 24 days, Danny Granger was an Indiana Pacer. For 3,160 days, Danny Granger was an Indiana Pacer.

Then on February 21, 2014 Danny Granger was sent to the Philadelphia 76ers in the eleventh hour of the trade deadline.

Including that trade, he has now moved between 5 different teams during the past 367 days.

Here is a breakdown of where he has been since getting drafted:

  • Indiana Pacers Danny Granger: 3,160 days
  • Philadelphia 76er Danny Granger: 6 days
  • Los Angeles Clipper Danny Granger: 137 days
  • Miami Heat Danny Granger: 221 days
  • Phoenix Suns Danny Granger: 1 day and counting

Pacers fans have long had a love/hate relationship with Danny.

He was the team’s lone bright spot following the dark years after “The Brawl.” He was an All Star in 2008-09. He helped the Pacers become contenders again in the Eastern Conference.

But he never quite made the next step forward in this career, and he was never able to help the Pacers rise above the constant mediocrity of those days. As those years dredged on, he become more of a volume shooter and his determination to attack the basket and do the little things seemed to wane.

Then came a time, after battling injuries and seeing the rise of Paul George, it appeared that it may be time for Danny to go. The team was on the rise and his body had failed him to a point where he was no longer going to be able to help guide the franchise to the top.

When that time finally came last February, the reviews were positive. Danny would be missed, but the Pacers were trying to win a championship.

Needless to say, the Evan Turner acquisition failed miserably.

And while the Pacers made it to back to back Eastern Conference Finals, the trade of Danny Granger could hardly be called a success.

Fast forward to today.

After 5 teams in 367 days, Danny Granger is a member of the Phoenix Suns.

Maybe the best news for Danny Granger in this trade is not that he gets to stay in a warm weather city, but that he can spend time with the Suns heralded training and medical staff. It has long been said that they are the best staff in the NBA for keeping players healthy and extending players’ careers.

After Danny fighting injuries for several years with his knees, hopefully he can find a way to benefit from this opportunity.

And for the nostalgic Pacers fans like myself, yesterday Scott Agness tweeted the following:

Maybe one day the Pacers will take a page out of the Timberwolves playbook and bring Danny home.
