Luis Scola Leads Argentina to Win over Philippines

Luis Scola led Argentina to a 85-81 win over the Philippines on Tuesday and into second place in Group B at the FIBA World Cup.

Scola was 7 of 12 shooting with 19 points and seven rebound against a tough team of fighting Filipinos. The Philippines led until late in the second quarter when Luis Scola set up Marco Mata with a pass that led to a 3-pointer that gave Argentina a 38-36 lead. The Philippines kept close the rest of the way but weren’t able to close the game before the final buzzer.

Not that everything went smoothly…

NO SCOLA! DON’T DROP BACK ON DEFENSE! THE TURNOVER WASN’T EVEN YOUR FAULT!

The other Pacer at the FIBA World Cup, Damjan Rudez, saw 12 minutes of play with Croatia and hit two of his five 3-point attempts in his country’s 77-75 loss to Sengal. Croatia and Sengal are tied with Argentina in second place. Group B has Tuesday off before returning to action on Wednesday.
