Scola, Rudez Face Off at FIBA World Cup

Luis Scola dropped 30 points for Argentina, but it wasn’t enough for the South American power to over come Croatia and Damjan Rudez as the newly required Pacer and his fellow citizens won 90-85 in Group B of the FIBA World Cup. Croatia controlled the entire game after jumping out to a 2-12 lead early on. As a starter for Argentina, Scola went 11 of 19 from the field, as well as 1 of 1 from three and 7 of 11 from the free throw line to get his 30 points while also collecting nine rebounds. Rudez shot almost exclusively 3-pointers on his way to two of seven shooting and six points for Croatia but grabbed nine rebounds.

The win puts Croatia (2-0) at the top of Group B with Greece (2-0), while Argentina (1-1) and Sengal (1-1) are in second followed by Puerto Rico (0-2) and the Philippines (0-2).

Both Croatia and Argentina were victorious on Saturday when Rudez and his countrymen took down the Philippines while Scola and his crew beat Puerto Rico. In Argentina’s win Scola was 7 of 10 shooting with 20 points and nine rebounds. Rudez was 1 of 5 shooting, missing all four of his 3-point attempts.

Monday at 6:30 a.m. Croatia will take on Sengal. Argentia will take the court at 11:30 and play the Philippines. Both teams will have Tuesday off.
