Paul George’s horrific injury ended the chance of any Indiana Pacers representing the United States in the upcoming FIBA World Cup in Spain. But a few of his NBA teammates will still be competing to win gold for their nations.
Luis Scola, for one, is captaining Argentina despite his recent condemnation of the country’s basketball federation. And newcomer Damjan Rudez will represent Croatia. (Ian Mahinmi was scheduled to appear for France, but a shoulder injury will reportedly keep him out of the competition.)
Scola is by far the more accomplished international player — he won a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics and has been representing Argentina since he was 15 years old. But most of us have no idea how good Rudez is, so watching him play should be more interesting.
The best way to see both, however, is to tune in early Sunday morning when Argentina plays Croatia.
But here is a full group schedule for both squads, which will both try to get out of Group B. (All times Eastern, and you can find the Team USA schedule here.)
