Pacers are looking to trade for Greg Monroe

According to Matt Dery of Detroit Sports 105.1, the Pacers have called the Pistons about Greg Monroe.

This news comes in the same day that the Pacers offered Roy Hibbert, Chris Copeland and cash for Goran Dragic. It appears Larry Bird and Kevin Pritchard are looking to improve the team with a player that can be the main option on offense. There’s no one on the roster that Indiana can throw the ball to and say “Go score”.

David West could do it over multiple possessions but that is asking too much for him at this point in his career. C.J. Miles and Rodney Stuckey can take a bunch of shots but their efficiency will drop. Indiana needs a player like Goran Dragic or Greg Monroe to use up possessions.

Monroe tweeted earlier today that the Pistons never offered him a 5 year, 60 million dollar deal.

Monroe played all 82 games for Detroit and averaged 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists over 32.8 minutes per game. Although he doesn’t have much shooting range, he’s lot better on offense than Hibbert but isn’t nearly as good defensively.

Again, don’t expect this to be the last trade rumor involving Indiana. Trading Hibbert will be a challenge.
