Post-Game Grades: Pacers Mount Unreal Comeback, Shellshock Wizards

postgamegrades_inpost

The Good: The fight after the break. Indiana trailed by 19 but didn’t let it overcome them. Instead, the team — and particularly its young leader — dug in and came back with a vengeance. It was a glorious, commanding, unbelievable win. This is the type of win that can change the course of an entire season.

The Bad: Second quarter offense. Among the most miserable things you’ll ever see.

MVP: Paul George. Beast. His line in the second half: 24 minutes, 28 points, 7-for-10 shooting, 6-for-8 from 3, 8-for-10 from the line, 8 rebounds, 2 steals. He just turned 24 the other day. The Wizards should be grateful he left prisoners.

LVP: Luis Scola. You’re not helping.

X Factor: FT shooting. If the Pacers don’t go 19-for-29 (65.5%) the drama may not have been needed.

Indiana Pacers 95 Final
Recap | Box Score
92 Washington Wizards
David West, PF 44 MIN | 5-12 FG | 4-6 FT | 3 REB | 8 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 14 PTS | +15

Well he sure wasn’t great — defensively or shooting wise — early but did make up for it. Strong second half and 8 dimes is transcendent.

Paul George, SF 46 MIN | 12-20 FG | 8-10 FT | 12 REB | 0 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 39 PTS | 0

Jesus Walks.

Roy Hibbert, C 39 MIN | 6-12 FG | 5-7 FT | 9 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 2 BLK | 2 TO | 17 PTS | +16

My man.

George Hill, PG 37 MIN | 6-12 FG | 2-4 FT | 2 REB | 4 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 15 PTS | +18

The early aggression sparked the team. I don’t think they win without his first-quarter energy, and his series-long defense continues to impress.

Lance Stephenson, SG 41 MIN | 3-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 9 REB | 6 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 6 TO | 8 PTS | +15

A lot of Yikes stuff, but knocked down some big shots.

Luis Scola, PF 8 MIN | 0-1 FG | 0-2 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 0 PTS | -18

Maybe head back to Buenos Aires to make sure Messi is ready for the World Cup.

Evan Turner, SF 9 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -9

Do you also have Argentina ties? Either way, I hear the Falklands are nice this time of year.

Ian Mahinmi, C 5 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 0 PTS | -7

Not good.

C.J. Watson, PG 11 MIN | 1-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 2 PTS | -15

OK.

What a classic performance from The Five tonight. More, please.

  • Ian

C is too good for Watson. Basically both times the bench came in the Wizards went on their runs. The single worst performance the bench has put in collectively since before the Milwaukee game when Vogel started them all and they sort of found themselves.

Hopefully they put in a better performance in game 5 at home. The Pacers will need them assuming they advance.

Watson really did play alright. It is unfortunate he missed his three 3 point shots tonight, but he has been shooting fantastic from 3 overall in the playoffs. You make an average from all your shots. Some nights you are on and some you are off, but his overall is .458 this post-season (Fantastic!).

I agree on the rest of the bench. Scola & Turner especially need to step it up. I’m sick of seeing turner do his double crossover 17 foot jump shot move… it’s awful.

Watson had 1 assist and 2 turnovers, and had to benched because Miller was abusing him. Sorry, I love what CJ brings to the team but he was a liability last night.

Extraordinary comeback. Carry that effort and energy into game 5 and we’ll seal this one up at BLF on Tuesday!

Paul George doesn’t care for 19 point deficits

  • Daniel Li

Easily the best performance of the year from PG, he must be graded on a different curve from the others since that’s easily an A+++ effort from him. Its amazing how bad the second unit, they better seal up this series quick before the exhaustion from playing 40 min a night starts catching up on them.

Hopefully we can win in 5 and Brooklyn can push Miami. Who knows.

  • Melinda

The bench grades are waaayy to generous. The 19 deficit was their fault. 2 POINTS and they get Ds? smh

    • Melinda

Don’t get me wrong though, I like the Pacers bench, but this performance was unacceptable.

  • Josh Strouth

Turner and Scola are both playing horribly right now and should be benched permanently. There’s no way Cope, Butler, and Allen would perform any where close to as bad as Turner and Scola are.

    • Earl Malmsteen

Yeah I’m really surprised by Scola’s decline within the year. At the beginning of the year he was making some nice crafty plays cutting to the basket and now he’s pretty much content to play bad defense and pick and pop.
