"Frank Vogel's Job Is Safe," Tweets Pacers GM Kevin Pritchard

Yesterday, EPSN published an article with the headline “Frank Vogel ‘Coaching for His Job.’” It was written by Marc Stein, and there are few more connected NBA reporters than him. Adding  more lumber to the fire was another article, this one by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo, that revealed a recent fight/scuffle between Lance Stephenson and Evan Turner that occurred during a Pacers practice.

Obviously, the storm clouds hovering over the Fieldhouse of late started to look darker.

The coach’s job is safe, however, according to team general manager Kevin Pritchard. He tweeted the following earlier today: “Larry Bird just told me his sources say Frank Vogel’s job is safe.”

The team naturally couldn’t just let the rumors sit out there.

A response was required.

While I wouldn’t doubt the as-of-now sincerity of Pritchard or the organization at large, I still wouldn’t want to be Vogel if the Hawks win this series.

This team is supposed to win a title. I find it hard to believe that the franchise would do spend a summer doing nothing significant — or perhaps severe — if the Pacers lost to a 34-48 team in the first round.

You have to admit though, that Stein article was really light on actual information. The entire story relied on one anonymous source after another (Pritchard clearly alluding to that fact in his tweet).

I honestly don’t believe Vogel was ever in trouble, Hibbert and Hill disappearing, Watson and Bynum injuries, and PG totally losing his shot can’t be laid at the feet of Vogel.
