Post-Game Grades: Pacers Offense Honors Abe Pollin’s Wishes by Bringing No Bullets in Loss to Wizards

postgamegrades_inpost

The Good – The game ended.

The Bad – The game happened.

MVP – The guy who made it a rule that games must end.

LVP – The guy who made it a rule that they had to play all 48 minutes.

X Factor – It’s gotta be the mystifying way in which this team has begun to play as if they just met each other 10 minutes before the game. This team works on balance and continuity. It’s not entirely clear why or how these left, but they are gone. Gone.

And we’re left standing on the front porch, hoping they decide to come home.

Indiana Pacers 78 Final
Recap | Box Score
91 Washington Wizards
David West, PF 32 MIN | 4-10 FG | 2-2 FT | 7 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 4 TO | 10 PTS | -2

Foul trouble early. General non-factor.

Paul George, SF 38 MIN | 6-22 FG | 6-6 FT | 9 REB | 0 AST | 3 STL | 1 BLK | 5 TO | 19 PTS | -3

It was if Paul decided to demonstrate every flaw he has tonight.

Roy Hibbert, C 32 MIN | 3-8 FG | 2-5 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 5 BLK | 3 TO | 8 PTS | -1

Has basically played one, maybe two, good quarters in the last week.

George Hill, PG 38 MIN | 3-6 FG | 2-2 FT | 3 REB | 5 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 8 PTS | -4

Well, this is one way to avoid clutch free throws.

Lance Stephenson, SG 35 MIN | 3-13 FG | 7-8 FT | 14 REB | 4 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 13 PTS | -3

Lotta activity. Little accomplishment.

Lavoy Allen, PF 2 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | +2

Garbage time.

Luis Scola, PF 14 MIN | 5-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 10 PTS | -13

Hey, at least he hit shots again. Not that it mattered.

Evan Turner, SF 14 MIN | 0-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 0 PTS | -17

Clueless.

Chris Copeland, SF 7 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -5

His job is to hit shots. He didn’t.

Solomon Hill, SF 2 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | +2

Garbage time

Ian Mahinmi, C 14 MIN | 1-2 FG | 1-2 FT | 6 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 2 BLK | 0 TO | 3 PTS | -14

Did what he does, but gets kinda pointless when the team can’t score.

Donald Sloan, PG 10 MIN | 3-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 7 PTS | -9

Only guy in uniform to actually exceed expectations.

Rasual Butler, SG 2 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | +2

Garbage time.

Nice work building on that win from Wednesday. Ugh. Just when you thought that the Pacers were going to get their act together, this happens. Paul George has been miserable all month and that’s certainly not helping, but no one can seem to put together an entire decent game. They do realize they don’t have the top seed sewn up yet, right? There is still another game in Miami and the tie breaker is still up for grabs.

  • Earl Malmsteen

Almost every game the first half of the year, PG would get on a roll and make 2 or 3 plays that had me convinced he was in the MVP race. I feel like that’s happened maybe once in the last 20 games. Everything now seems so tentative compared to when he would just rise up and bury a couple 17 footers per game, and when he’s going to the basket it’s more to get fouled than to actually score. It’s too bad because even with an average offense this is an elite team, but they might have the worst offense in the league right now.

I wish he’d revert back to his 17-footers instead of driving it in cuz honestly he doesn’t know how to drive the ball to the basket. good thing is that he seems to step up in big games/moments. His defense is incredible. His offense is messy.
