Josh Smith Blows By Luis Scola for a Big Dunk

Something tells me Luis Scola can’t guard Josh Smith on the perimeter. Still, given Smoove’s penchant for taking long twos or 3-pointers of any variety, you would hope that Scola could at least sag way back and give up the jumper rather than let this happen.

I get that Scola was trying hard to force Smith from using his dominant, more lethal left hand to put the ball on the floor and he got caught overplaying one side. And I totally get that Andrew Bynum is asleep at the whole wheel of cheese on help defense. Still, Scola as an individual and the Pacers once-scary defense needs to put up a better effort than this.

Similar to the famous LeBron blows by Luis Scola for a dunk highlight, this matchup should NEVER happen. Scola isn’t big enough to punish Smith and LeBron on the block the way David West can, and he is utterly lacking in lateral quickness. There are very few players in the NBA who can guard either of those players one on one, let alone Scola. Better to have someone like Chris Copeland out there who at least has some basic athleticism.
