Post-Game Grades: The Fortress in Atlanta Has Fallen

postgamegrades_inpost

The Good – Winning in Atlanta and causing the Fortress to shimmy for the first time since 2006.

The Bad – Lance almost killing himself.

MVP – David West had a season high 22 points, put the team on his back.

LVP – Indiana dodged a bullet as Paul Millsap was 2 of 11 shooting and limited to 7 points, but give him some credit for 12 rebounds.

X-Factor – Only 5 second half turnover by the Pacers. Maybe if they can cut down on the 14 in the first this isn’t as close of a game. But hey, it is a win in the ATL.

Defining Moment –  An early 8-0 run to start the third quarter put the Pacers ahead 55-47 and they never lost that lead despite the Hawks’ rally.

Indiana Pacers 89 FinalRecap | Box Score 85 Atlanta Hawks
David West, PF 32 MIN | 10-19 FG | 1-1 FT | 10 REB | 2 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 22 PTS | +2West was the backbone tonight shooting 53 percent while doing a little of everything with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. That’s what you want a vet like him to do: Let the others do the work most night, but put the team on your back when it is needed.
Paul George, SF 36 MIN | 6-16 FG | 4-4 FT | 7 REB | 2 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 5 TO | 18 PTS | +3Shot a lot, made less, but 18 points. Not a bad outing really, but I don’t grade PG on a curve.
Roy Hibbert, C 30 MIN | 4-10 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 8 PTS | +5Dear Mrs. HibbertWe haven’t seen your son as much recently.
If he is at home please send him back to Indiana.

Thanks,

Pacers Fans

George Hill, PG 37 MIN | 2-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 7 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 5 PTS | -2Was a distributor on Tuesday night, can’t knock that after a tough night shooting on Monday.
Lance Stephenson, SG 23 MIN | 4-5 FG | 1-1 FT | 4 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 6 TO | 10 PTS | +2He couldn’t stick the landing so he loses a few points. He was efficient a productive in his 23 minutes put damn near got himself killed.
Luis Scola, PF 16 MIN | 3-6 FG | 2-4 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 8 PTS | +2Not a bad night in 16 minutes of play and had better shooting from mid-range than most of 2014 so far.
Danny Granger, SF 23 MIN | 2-7 FG | 4-4 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 8 PTS | 0After a night in Granger Zone this was back closer to Granny Danger but at least he scored as much as Roy did.
Ian Mahinmi, C 17 MIN | 1-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 2 PTS | 0More like Ian MEHinmi. Am I right guys?
C.J. Watson, PG 22 MIN | 2-3 FG | 4-6 FT | 1 REB | 3 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 8 PTS | +6Not bad, no great, no real complaints.

George Hill a C? 7 assist on 1 TO; and one clutch layup (1:24 left, in a moment where it looked possible that ATL won this game). Also, neither Teague, Mack or Schroeder scored even 10 points. Hill deserves a B at least.

    • Jackson

Hill always gets screwed over on these grades

      • Derek U

It’s either wildly under, or over rated.. They never seem to hit his grades.

  • Z Smits

Granger should get half a grade better just for some clutch free throws at the end when that place got loud. Lance gets an A- for 6 TOs? there should be a rule you can’t have better than a C+ when you turn it over that much (i get that the and 1 was pretty cool). Still, good to see a grind it out win after their rally on a b2b on the road

    • Philip Tarrant

Agreed. Hard to call lance “efficient” with 6 TOs no matter how well he shot.
