Lance Stephenson Gets Second Violation for Flopping

Word of this just came out tonight on Lance Stephenson being hit with a fine of $5,000 for a second violation of the flop rule. Now, while it’s only the second time he’s been hit with this violation, you know that the league will probably keep a closer eye on Stephenson from here on out. It takes the sixth time for things to get serious with suspensions and what not, but even getting to two, I believe could lead to a more watchful eye.

I think the bigger deal is in the eye of fans and that whole idea of flopping. I know being a fan at games here in town, the chant of “he’s a flopper” can be heard a few times during the season. I would hate for Lance Stephenson to earn that reputation as he’s worked hard to garner a good reputation.

While those guys that have that reputation for flopping aren’t always bad guys, it’s still a stigma that you don’t want hovering over you. The Pacers are a team that’s so prideful on the defensive end, you would hate for other teams to be calling them out. Almost a hypocritical aspect to it. I am sure coaches will get in Stephenson’s ear about how to handle this from here on out.

They’ve been great about getting him under control on everything else, so this is just another thing that I don’t imagine will get worse. Stephenson just needs to play his game the right way, and not try to over exaggerate things like he’s been known to do. Let’s leave the flop at home and focus on playing tough as he has been.
