Danny Granger Out for Season Opener

Not the piece of news that fans want to hear right now concerning Danny Granger. I really thought Granger would be quite the complement piece for this Pacers team. He could be that other option of scoring for the bench or that fifth starter. But now, it’s hard to be optimistic about Granger’s future as this about the same thing that the Pacers went through last year. Granger ends up playing those five games, but then had to go down the rest of the season. So right now, it’s hard to believe he’s going to bounce right back into this line up anytime soon.

In a way, that’s good news for Lance Stephenson, as he’s secured his starting role back, and hopefully can continue the emergence he’s made. It bodes well for Paul George to continue his transition into the man for the Pacers. I don’t think Granger would have been any negative part of that anyways. But now you know Paul George is going to be that guy for the Pacers that could become one of their best players ever. This injury just means the bench guys will have to step up their roles.

A guy like Luis Scola should become that “sixth” starter. He needs to come out firing for the second unit. Or Chris Copeland, who should become that three point threat the Pacers haven’t had in a while. How about even some playing time for Solomon Hill, the rookie draft pick that looks to be the man to replace Granger at some point anyways. Now would be the time to say go out and show us what you got. He’s someone that I’ve not heard much about, so I am curious to see what he can bring for this team.

It just is a bad hit to Danny Granger right now, as I’ve already figured his days as an Indiana Pacer were numbered, and this injury probably won’t help matters. I’ve always enjoyed him as a player. He’s been stuck with some bad teams, so now that the Pacers have a legit title contender, I think it’s bad that Granger can’t be out there to help contribute. I know he’ll be a guy that can be a leader even on the bench, but he’s someone that wants to be out there so much, and finish his career as an Indiana Pacer. Maybe this injury does that for him, but that would also mean that playing career is done, and I can’t see that happening right now.
