Indiana Pacers Odds and Ends

I’ve been struggling to find some recent Indiana Pacers news to talk out, but there have been short stories here and there, so why not talk those up. Today is Reggie Miller’s birthday.  So happy birthday to Mr. Pacer himself. He’s a guy that did so much for this franchise and the city of Indianapolis, it’s amazing to think that he almost didn’t make it here.  The Pacers could have just picked the “local” guy in Steve Alford in that draft, and we might be where we are today. But the team saw something in Reggie Miller, and he’s a guy that you always wanted to see win that ring.  He came close, but couldn’t get over the hump.  One of those great players of the 90s never to win one.  But he’s a guy that will be always thought about fondly here, and that’s great for the organization.

I’ve been seeing stories about Roy Hibbert bulking up and working out with Tim Duncan, which can only help his game. He’s a guy that could use that extra bit of muscle on him, and of course working with one of the best big men of all time helps the game around you.  Hibbert will be a force this season as long as his head is right where it needs to be. I predict an All Star season if Hibbert plays the way we believe he should play.  Also, he can’t seem to fit into airline bathrooms, so that’s kind of a news item.  Like I said, it’s been a slow news time for the Indiana Pacers.

If you have any other newsworthy items for me, please pass them along.  Next month we’ll be getting all the previews out as the team should be picking up some business. Then October we’ll have some more basketball to talk about as the team readies itself for the opening game on October 29th.  Hard to believe basketball is making itself right back around.
