If there’s one area that Roy Hibbert can improve, it would be that ability to pound down low with the bigger guys in the league. I know Hibbert is probably not going to be huge, but he can definitely work on that muscle mass to get to the rim strong and with authority. Maybe that should just be a mindset change where Hibbert takes on an aggressive stance, and works the ball to the rim. We’ve seen a few times during the season when Hibbert got that look in his eyes, and was able to rock the rim with authority.
I think he’s a guy that could work out well to also get some signature move, and working with Tim Duncan in the off season should help that out. Hibbert has a soft touch around the rim anyways, but if you know you can count on him for some speciality shot, like Duncan and the bank shot, then just think how much better Hibbert looks.
The key is just coming out strong at the start of the season. Hopefully, Hibbert won’t be dealing with any small injury, like last season with his wrist. It looked to really bother him as he ended up going more to the left hand as the right hand was the hurt one. But this season, Hibbert looks to cut down on the MMA training, and focus on conditioning, which is always a great place to build up the body. If he can come out strong and aggressive this whole season, there’s no doubt, he’s up there at the top center position. It’s hard to find those guys that play center down in the block, and have that big body to use, but Hibbert has that size and length. He’s that type of guy the Pacers can feed the ball to for a basket down low. This summer will be important just to improve upon the little things, so he can be ready for what should be an All Star season.
