NBA Draft 2013: Indiana Pacers Will Select

With the 23rd pick in tonight’s NBA Draft, the Indiana Pacers will select Tim Hardaway Jr or Glen Rice Jr.  Those are the two names that I keep coming back to in this year’s NBA Draft concerning the Indiana Pacers.  Either one of these guys could fill that need of a guard position for the team. The Pacers would look for that scoring type in Glen Rice.  But they could also look for that back up point guard in Tim Hardaway Jr.

Both guys might need some more development before jumping into the fire of the NBA.  But I think that could be said for a lot of guys in this year’s draft. It’s hard pointing out those players that will come in and make an impact.  Even looking at mock drafts for the Indiana Pacers, and the names are changing every time I look somewhere. Just today, someone had posted that the Pacers could select Mason Plumlee, brother of Miles Plumlee.  Fans around here probably would be leery of that pick.

But that’s the best part of this year’s draft, expecting the unexpected.  Even with Larry Bird back into the fold as President of the Pacers, the team could make some move to trade away that pick if they see fit. I wouldn’t be surprised by that as well because I think Bird wants to jump right into the mix, and starting putting those finishing touches on the Pacers.  There’s obviously a reason he wanted to come back, and I think we’ll start seeing what he wants to do with this team soon.

The draft should be an interesting one since the Pacers can go in a few different directions.  Maybe pick up some big men to bulk up the power forward or center positions.  Maybe go the route of an instant offense guy, and find that shooter to come in.  How about some ball handler to fill the need of a solid back up point guard?  Those are the glaring needs of this Pacers team, and tonight would be a good shot at upgrading that right away.
