Indiana Pacers First Off-Season Acquisition: Larry Bird

The Indiana Pacers will be having a press conference tomorrow morning at Bankers Life Field House to verify their first offseason acquisition that has been a rumor now for what seems like the second half of the season. The Indiana Pacers will be announcing the return of Larry Bird as the Pacers President of Basketball Operations signing the Indiana native to a multi-year contract. Larry left a season ago siting largely that there were some health issues that he needed to straighten out, but never closed the door on a return to the franchise. Donnie Walsh has said on record many times that if Larry Legend wanted to once again take the reins of his home state team, that he would gladly step aside. It looks as if the rumors are now coming to fruition, however Donnie Walsh will continue with the franchise as a operations consultant.

Officially, Bird will be taking over as President of Basketball Operations on July 1st. Given that Donnie Walsh has been the one heading player work-outs for college prospects and doing his homework on film, it is only logical that he finish his job at the 2013 NBA Draft. It can be assumed however, that Larry will have his signature on everything there after. It will be refreshing to see Larry back for the Blue and Gold. The “Starting Six” are all Larry Bird acquisitions and this team is Larry Bird’s craft and design. After the Hall Of Famer puts his touch on the Pacers bench, the possibilities are limitless. This team is so close to an NBA Championship, and they just took yet another step in the right direction.
