NBA Playoffs 2013: Paul George and Carmelo Anthony One Up Each Other

When it comes to the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks, I know who my eyes will be focused on.  Carmelo Anthony and Paul George.  Two guys still trying to prove their worth in the NBA. I think Carmelo Anthony is up there in level of super star, but he’s not quite at the elite level. He’s a great scorer, but what about the rest of his game.  It’s one thing to get your team to a victory by scoring, but what if he’s not scoring, then what does he do.  His defense isn’t anything that people talk about.  I would think for his size, he could be a better rebounder.  And passing wise, I’ve never heard anything said about that aspect.  Plus he’s not made it to the NBA Finals yet, and that’s always the big measuring stick of a player.  Even some like Allen Iverson was able to make to the Finals, and he was always in the scoring vein.  Now Carmelo Anthony has to prove he’s not just a scoring machine, but a true leader.

Then we see what Paul George has done, and it’s been amazing to watch his transformation. But in the close out game against the Atlanta Hawks, he had a bad shooting night, and scored only 4 points.  That’s not what a leader of a team does even on the off night.  Luckily, George Hill and David West stepped up to score, but George still looks to be the new face of the Pacers.  He’s now got that chance on a bigger stage to do it even more.  I know it’s bad to compare past to present, but I do know what a Pacers player of the past has done on that big stage against the New York Knicks.  His first name is Reginald. His last name is Miller.  I’m not quite sure Paul George makes that type of leap Reggie Miller did, but if he can make that sort of splash then the Pacers might have a great shot at advancing, which is truly the goal of this Indiana team.

Sure there will be the role players around each team, but I do think each guy has their purpose on what to do in this series.  Melo has that role of hitting the big shot, and George has that role of trying to lead in all the aspects he can.  I think George is going to have to be a bit more aggressive in this series, and make Anthony work on the defensive end. But George has to stay on his toes to guard Anthony, so it should be the match up to watch.  Whoever gets the best out of it should get their team the win.
