NBA Playoffs 2013: Indiana Pacers STILL Can’t Win in Atlanta

The Indiana Pacers jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but after that it was all Atlanta.  The Pacers had no answer for anything, and this was an opportunity that goes by the wayside for them.  Now the Pacers will have to figure out what to make of this bigger line up the Hawks are putting together, and if they can sort that out, then the Pacers should be good to go.  But last night was just downright ugly.  Ugly enough to almost turn off, but being the Pacers fan I am, I sat through it, and kept waiting for some run to happen.  Even Coach Frank Vogel, the ULTIMATE optimist, kept saying in huddles we just need to string some points and stops.  I don’t know if he’s ever said a bad thing about this team, and with the players they have, that’s the best way to go about business.

But now something might have to be said about the effort last night.  Even David West had a brief lapse in judgment that caused a small ruckus.  He thinks he gets fouled on one end, and then fouls Ivan Johnson the other way with a shove in the back with his left arm.  I’m surprised that wasn’t flagrant two and an ejection because it was a bit more than what should have been.  But it was only flagrant one, and West stays in the game, but never was fully in that one last night.  Not that many Pacer players were.  Roy Hibbert had a few baskets in the third quarter.  West wasn’t his usual self.  Paul George for all the good he did was bad. There was just nothing there to really pin point as a highlight for the Pacers.

Is there something in the water in Atlanta?  The Pacers have lost 12 straight games there, and now have to fully respond to get this series back to where it should be.  The Pacers should have taken care of business last night, and we should be talking sweep.  This Pacers team needs to figure out how to combat that bigger line up of the Hawks, and it’s going to take all hands on deck to get fully back to where they are going.  Maybe lucky 13 will be the game that the Pacers find that way to win.  They have to respond after last night’s thrashing.
