Post-Game Grades: Pacers Beat Suns

You would like to see a team like the Pacers win more convincingly when playing a team as bad as the Suns. But this was the second night of a road/road back-to-back, and they were in control throughout.

The outcome was somewhat in doubt late, but they made enough plays to hold off Goran Dragic, the ghost of Jermaine O’Neal and company.

Of course, if they would have increased the intensity early, it never would have come to that.

Instead, in the first half, it felt more like they were playing with their food than actually struggling. But they still put together a sizable lead that allowed them to win even while allowing Phoenix to match them in points in the second half. It was only eight points when it should have been twice that, but it was enough.

Basically, it went like the shakiest game in a three-game road winning streak should go.

Nothing to brag about, but the Pacers kept alive the hope of going 4-0 on this Western Conference trip.

Which is all that matters right now.

David West, PF 35 MIN | 6-11 FG | 2-2 FT | 7 REB | 4 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 5 TO | 14 PTS | +7

Mr. West is in the building. Hit two mammoth jumpers, got a clutch board and hit two big free throws. Also got the ball straight ripped from him late by Markief Morris though.

Paul George, SF 43 MIN | 7-14 FG | 9-12 FT | 4 REB | 4 AST | 4 STL | 2 BLK | 4 TO | 25 PTS | +9

How good is this guy? Lots of earned FTs.

Roy Hibbert, C 29 MIN | 7-17 FG | 6-10 FT | 7 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 3 TO | 20 PTS | +7

It’s really a shame that the return of Hibbert didn’t coincide with the return of Granger. This team could be very dangerous.

George Hill, PG 34 MIN | 4-8 FG | 6-7 FT | 5 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 15 PTS | +4

Good play, good free-throw shooting except that last one (which wasn’t particularly damning).

Lance Stephenson, SG 37 MIN | 6-12 FG | 3-4 FT | 6 REB | 3 AST | 3 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 16 PTS | +17

Super encouraging to see him have two big games in four days. Ginormous steal late.

Tyler Hansbrough, PF 13 MIN | 1-3 FG | 3-4 FT | 6 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 5 PTS | +1

Geting it done on the glass and getting to the line: His two biggest jobs.

Sam Young, SF 5 MIN | 0-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -1

Sammy.

Ian Mahinmi, C 19 MIN | 3-6 FG | 0-2 FT | 6 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 6 PTS | +1

Much better outing than the other night, that’s for sure.

D.J. Augustin, PG 14 MIN | 2-4 FG | 4-4 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 8 PTS | +4

Liked what I saw.

Orlando Johnson, SG 11 MIN | 1-4 FG | 1-1 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 3 PTS | -9

Fearless. Didn’t convert but one bucket, but tried to dunk on the whole team. That counts for something.
