Indiana Pacers are Playing Their Best Basketball at the Right Time

Don’t look now, but the Indiana Pacers have won their last three games by margins of 24, 34, and 32.  Sure, you could point out that two of those wins were against bad teams, but the fact that they’re winning by those big of margins has to be impressive.  Beating the New York Knicks by 34 and when the lead got to as much as 39 is impressive.  This was a Knicks team that had solidly beat the Pacers at Madison Square Garden. Now the Pacers have won the past two meetings with the Knicks, and taken over second place in the Eastern Conference.  They’ve also built up a two game lead in the division, which is great.

The offense is really clicking to the point, where Frank Vogel had to reel it in last night.  Lance Stephenson tried for a between the legs pass when things were getting out of hand, and got pulled right after the play to help control his free play.  That’s a good statement by Vogel to get Stephenson to realize his role and why he doesn’t always have to go for the fancy pass.  Part of me enjoys that aspect of Stephenson’s game when it works of course.  But when you make a bad pass, then you don’t like it as much.  But I stil think Stephenson sees so much more out there than most guys in the league.

Looking at this Pacers team and seeing the offense score over 100 points is awesome as well.  Early in the season, we were starting to get used to see scores of 80′s and 90′s.  But now this offense has all guys moving and even making that extra pass.  You might say there’s one too many passes at times.  Paul George is an example of this when he had a wide open look, but passes it off to George Hill, who has an open look as well.  But that’s being nit picky about it, and if guys want to work the ball around, I am all for that.  With the way defenses don’t know who is going to score the points for the Pacers, that extra pass could be key.

Now the Pacers just have to keep building and hope that Danny Granger comes back for some productivity.  I know we keep saying that, and I do think that his return should happen soon.  But until then, this team looks to be moving in the right direction.  Are you on board with it?
