NBA All Star 2013: Indiana Pacers and the All Star Weekend

Conrad Brunner has put together a great article highlighting what Indiana Pacer players have done at All Star Weekend.  For the most part, there’s not been a lot of hight lights.  But then again, the Indiana Pacers aren’t a high light team.  This weekend will be about Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, Kobe Bryant, and such.  The Pacers don’t have that big superstar on their team, but Paul George, who will be playing for the East All Stars could get there.  But we’ll save that story for another time.  Looking at how George got into this year’s All Star team is great in that it’s voted by the coaches.  So even if fans aren’t noticing how much Paul George means to this Pacers team, and how well he’s performed, the coaches of the Eastern Conference have taken notice.  The league will be taking notice soon enough.

This weekend will see plenty of Paul George as he goes for the three point contest and then plays some in the All Star Game.  I don’t know if he’ll get many minutes with the superstar power that is available, but he’ll get out there and do what he can.  That’s pretty much been the history of Pacers and All Star Games.  Jermaine O’Neal has been the more successful Indiana player when it comes to this.  He’s been part of the game five times with two starts included there.  He’s averaged 11 points in the game and about 8 rebounds there.  Not too shabby for a guy from a small market team.

The fans around town know who are players are, and that’s really all that matters.  You can earn accolades, but around here, it’s all about the blue collar gold swagger talk.  Going out to play a game and not worrying about personal stats, but what’s best for the team.  Paul George will tell you it’s all about how his team is performing before he goes into how he’s done for them.  Danny Granger will say he’s going to come back and give the team what he can.  David West always uses “we” when talking about this Pacers team.  Those are All Stars to me even without the official title.  So Pacer fans, enjoy the ride with Paul George, but enjoy the other super stars as well since this league has some fantastic players.
