Indiana Pacers Host Detroit Pistons: Game Preview

I know it’s only the end of January, but I’m calling tonight a need to win game for the Blue and Gold.  This Pacers team is on the 3 game slide, and with three tough games coming up against quality teams, they need some momentum.  Luckily, there are four straight games at home for the Pacers, starting with tonight’s game against the Detroit Pistons.  Not too get too far ahead, but the Pacers will play Miami, Atlanta, and Chicago after this. Not exactly the best recipe to get out of the small funk this team has entered.

In tonight’s game, I look for that tremendous defense to make their mark tonight.  Last time out, they only allowed 77 points against the Pistons.  This is a Pistons team that puts up around 94 a game, which is something the Pacers should be able to hold them under.  The Pistons meanwhile have given up 109 points in their last three games, so this could be a great opportunity for the Pacers offense to do some damage as well.

I would look for the Pacers to pound the ball inside as that’s a weakness for the Pistons.  David West had an excellent game last time out and put up 23 points against Detroit. I would think he gets around that mark as well tonight if the Pacers really look for him.  How about Roy Hibbert gets going as well?  We all know the shooting struggles he’s endured this season?  Possibly getting him to a good night would be great for his confidence especially going into those next three games, where the Pacers could really use him.

But it all starts with a win tonight and then hopefully seeing if the magic of home can will the Pacers to some more wins to get going again.  They are one of the best home teams at 16-3, so this will be nice to have that advantage for the month of February.  They should get another win to that record tonight, and continue the current win streak at home, which is sitting at 11 games.
