Post-Game Grades: Pacers Embarrass Bobcats

That right there is a world-class beatdown. The Pacers even bothered not to make a single field goal for six minutes and sixteen seconds from the end of the first quarter into the second. Didn’t matter. Despite this early appearance of Indiana’s Nightly Scoring Stretch of Futility (patent pending), the team still got out to a double-digit lead at the half.

Then they stepped on some throats.

This was the classic, deadly third-quarter performance we saw time and time again last season, as the Pacers dropped 33 on the Bobcats while holding them to just 17 points. A 10-point lead ballooned to 26, and it was all over but the crying.

By the end, the Pacers had once again held an opponent under 80 points.

This was the eighth time this season Indiana has held a team to less than 80 points, and the sixth time in their last nine games they have held a team to 83 or fewer.

Yes, the Pacers play at a slower pace than all but three NBA teams.

Yes, the Charlotte Bobcats are barely an NBA team.

But, man, holding teams to such low totals — especially when three of them have been Miami, New York and Memphis — is impressive no matter how you do it and who you do it against.

It’s official I believe Gerald Green and JaVale McGee are twins they are so much like each other.

    Feelin generous tonight? lol

Nice dub! Think Vogel’s greatest coaching endeavor of the season will be seamlessly incorporating Granger back into the lineup? It may seem like an easy answer, but where do those minutes get proportioned? Does Granger start right away or ease his way back in with the second unit (bringing a much needed scoring presence)? Ideas, ideas.

    • Adam Cox

I’m thinking the first week off the bench to get his legs back, then back to starting

    • lil-bang

It will be interesting…If the first game he comes back is at home, no way he is coming off the bench, they will want to introduce him with the starting lineup to get the crowd all jacked. But I could see them treating him like a Stoudamire. Slowly giving him minutes back until he his up to speed and can click with the starting lineup again. Danny plays better Defense and shoots better than Lance (I know Lance has our highest shooting percentage right now, but I wouldn’t trust him with a game winner, also Lances gets some easy dunks)…only thing Lance has over Danny is the assists Lance has been getting.

    • Petey’s Head

I agree, should be interesting. Danny def gets 20 min a game off the bench for a week or so, then starts. I’m actually excited to see Lance run the second team. He should boost Gerald Green a lot and have the opportunity to create for himself more. I think a good amount of the 2nd team’s struggles will be somewhat alleviated by Lances insertion into the unit.

    • Joe Betz

Yeah, I think he will come in off the bench, too…kind of like John Wall right now with the Wizards. Then he will work into the starting lineup after 4-7 games.

    this is lazy reporting…

  • kemosabe

Green should have gotten an F. That’s me though.

    • Jack Wright

      definitely

    • Philip Tarrant

Yeah, the bench’s offensive inefficiency is becoming quite appalling. I can only hope the Grange’s comeback and Lance’s subsequent move to the bench gives us the kick we need to step this offense up to average.

      • NLP

The bench would play better just by Green not shooting so much. When he’s taking over haft the bench shots at 8.7 a game and shooting 27.6% over the last 10 its kills the unit.

Lance would do wonders for the bench since he can score but more importantly make passes to get guys great quality looks something most on the team can’t do.

  • lil-bang

Can we call inflation on these grades?…Pacers got an easy game last night. It’s been a while. They needed it. Jared you should get an easy night of giving grades. It’s the bobcats, why waste your time when the games for the rest of this month will really show where the Pacers stand: @Orlando, vs Houston, @Memphis, @Portland, @Utah, @Denver…and vs Detroit.
    GO Pacers!!!

Good article of Pacers on Grantland, if somehow people missed it on the front Page of ESPN.

    • Jack Wright

      yeah nice article

    • Philip Tarrant

Did you see that half court shot video that was linked in the article? Talk about soft touch….

  • NLP

Now 35.3% for Green on the year on 286 shots, That’s good for 5th most on the team 38 more than Lance and 112 more than Tyler for the bench lead. If Green didn’t have the dunks there is no telling how bad his shooting percentage would be, he’s in danger of getting passed by DJ in shooting percentage and he actually lost his job for a while. Gerald would need to shoot 50% for his next 150 shots to raise it 5 points to just 40.4% Its been 10 games since he shot better that 40.0% going 24-for-87 “good” for 27.6% over the period.

  • Joe Betz

The bench kept the Bobcats under 80 points, which is nice, but the same questions of scoring off the bench remain–Green has to stop shooting so many threes…he can make them, but I feel like when he enters the game he decides to just jack-up three shots from deep…still prefer him to Barbosa/Jones, though…

  • dwaink

i still think Green will come off the bench in the playoffs and get a 20 point game and u will all be saying thank god we got him…oh ye of little faith :) Go Pacers!!!!

    • NLP

If Green takes enough shots for him to score 20 in the playoffs we’re in deep trouble.

Totally agree. Really is missing much interest to demonstrate that are true professional basketball players in the field.
