Roy Hibbert Goes AWOL Last Night

That is Roy Hibbert’s stat line from last evening’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks.  Now who knows why Hibbert didn’t have it last night, and I know fans will jump on the side that he doesn’t deserve that big contract he received.  But there’s no doubt something was up last night.

I don’t have the luxury of watching these games, but I do listen on the radio.  But never in the broadcast did the radio announcer say anything was physically wrong with Hibbert, which makes it hard to figure out why he was so out of the game.  I’m a bit supporter of Hibbert, so I’m hoping this is a blip on the screen.  Just an odd instance that he didn’t have his A game or any game on this evening.

Maybe there was something in Hibbert’s body language that told the story. I know Hibbert is that guy that you can look at and tell whether he’s on or not.  That’s a way he can improve his game is by keeping that poker face up. I will give credit to someone like Dwayne Wade, who just keeps the same face on all game.  Well, except when he’s arguing about a foul that he may not have got.  That’s a whole other story.  For the most part, Wade is that guy that’s just on and ready to go all game.  He doesn’t change facial expressions based on his play, he’s out there ready to go.

But Hibbert is a guy that’s so emotionally invested at times, you have to be careful with his confidence.  We saw that during the Jim O’Brien days, and Hibbert didn’t bring his A game that often.  But then Frank Vogel comes in and Hibbert ends up earning an All Star appearance last season.  That should tell a lot right there.

Hopefully, come Monday, we’ll see the Hibbert that was that All Star last season and has even been up to that level at times this season.  His consistency has dropped off, and that could be due to an undisclosed wrist injury.  But what’s the story with last night?  I hope there’s nothing more there other than a bad day at the office.
