Indiana Pacers on Three Game Win Streak

The Pacers are riding a three game wave of wins, but most impressive was the win last night. You saw a team that arrived in New Orleans late, and the way that first half went, the team was lagging behind.  They were down 22 points at one point and rallied to get it within 17 points before half time.  Then things really turned around in that third quarter as the Pacers outscored the Hornets 24-7 in the third quarter.  Talk about a run, and this team put it together.  Here’s some stat I found while looking over the Pacers’ win last night.

From Elias: The Pacers trailed the Hornets at halftime, 46-29, but rallied to defeat New Orleans, 81-75. It marked only the third time in the shot-clock era (1954 to present) that an NBA team scored fewer than 30 points in the first half and trailed by more than 15 points at that point, but still won the game. The other teams to overcome that predicament in a victory were the 76ers in 2007 (against the Trail Blazers) and the Nets in 2009 (versus the Hawks).

This is why the Pacers are a  team that can play solid defense and never be fully out of the game. Even as a fan, I was leery about last night’ game because it looked like the team couldn’t do anything. But then they went on that small run before half time, and got the score even closer in the third quarter.

In the month of December, they only have four losses, and they’ve come to some good teams in the Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets. But getting the wins the Pacers have put them right at the top of the Central Division now.  They’re tied with the Chicago Bulls, who they get to face off again on December 26th.  That’s going to be a fun atmosphere. The day after Christmas, so what else would you rather do that night than take in some NBA action?  This will be another good test for the Pacers as they want to prove they’re ready to take this division, and that game could help the cause.
