Indiana Pacers Player Spotlight: David West

David West continued his impressive play Tuesday night with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and even 8 assists in Los Angeles against the Lakers.  Those 8 assists are quite impressive as he’s never been known as a passing guy.  But with the way West gets the ball in the post, you would think guys can cut to the basket, and he’ll find them for an easy basket.  So you might be thinking, what way can David West improve his game?

The best way to improve his game in my mind is to be more aggressive.  There are those times it feels like he’s thinking no one else is scoring it’s my time to do it then. I would like that aggressive attitude once he gets the ball in a good position to score.  I know it’s an aggressive player, but he can step it up even more as the team looks for scoring.

Defensively, Roy Hibbert and him really have a good chemistry in the post area.  Both guys just have a way to get their hands on the ball whenever it’s around there.  Even if West can’t snag a rebound, he gets his hands on it and tips it to a teammate.  It’s just that hustle play that each Pacer can learn from.

The leadership aspect is still the best thing going for him as far as his presence is concerned. You know what you’re going to get from West, and with this team that has been so up and down, that’s something to learn from West.  Hibbert should be taking as many notes as he can from West, and learn how to play in that post area.  West is the guy that the Pacers should lock up for a few more seasons and this team can continue their improvement towards a contender.
