Dear Roy Hibbert,
It’s time for you to step up and earn this contract that you signed over the summer. I was one of those people who stated at the beginning of the summer that the Indiana Pacers had to keep you around. I love what you do for the community as you’ve really established yourself as a Hoosier and not even being a native one. But fans will only accept that as long as you make the plays on the court. You don’t want to be known as that guy who made money, but couldn’t produce.
I understand that pressure you’ve put on yourself, and I think that last season you showed that you were worth this contract. Those bunny shots in the post will start falling, just keep your head in the game. It’s one thing to show emotion during a game, but don’t lose your confidence. You have that ability to hit those soft rollers in the lane, so keep doing that.
I love the way you’ve stepped it up on the defensive end. That block on Elton Brand in the Dallas game, where you practically smashed it back in his face was impressive. Continue to man the lane like a fly swatter. Get your hand on every ball even if you can’t rebound it. I know you have that great ability to tip out the ball for a teammate to rebound, and that’s something fans have to look for that won’t show up in the stat sheet.
You can be one of those great Pacers players that people around here always talk about as long as you produce. 12-15 points a game and 10 or more rebounds isn’t that far out of reach for you. You can get that by just being around the basket as much as you are. It’s time to make Area 55 extra proud, and show what being a Pacers player is all about.
