Indiana Pacers and Washington Wizards Game Preview

Indiana Pacers (2-4)

Washington Wizards (0-4)

No time like the present to play a winless team like the Washington Wizards for the Pacers.  The Pacers are trying to get one win after losing three straight and hoping to get some momentum rolling.  Two home games against the Wizards and Raptors could help get the team into gear.  Tonight there’s no John Wall for the Wizards, which could be a tough match for George Hill.

The Pacers will need George Hill to play like he did last night with his 29 points.  He looks to be stepping it up in Danny Granger’s absence along with David West.  But the rest of the team is still struggling to find their way.  At times, the team looks like they could roll away with a game, but at other times, it looks like they’re going to lose by double digits. It’s a tough road to sled when trying to get back into this Eastern Conference hunt for who wants to take out Miami.

Maybe with some home cooking of the Fieldhouse, the Pacers will play like everyone has been anticipating.  Locking down on defense, and getting fast break points when they present themselves.  I feel like the Pacers play like a better team when they are pushing the ball and getting to the lane.  At times, it’s great to work the ball into the post, but Roy Hibbert has struggled with getting those easy baskets, so I worry about his confidence.  Tonight’s game against a smaller team could help alleviate that struggle for Hibbert.  A win tonight could help alleviate the fans’ worries that this Pacers team won’t make the playoffs.  With the way they are playing, it’s early to talk playoffs, but the right moment to see what identity this team has.  Right now, there’s not a lot there.

You know this team has good players, but mixing them together has been a challenge.  Maybe tonight is when it just clicks together, and we see what a good Indiana team can do.  If not tonight, then it might be time to put on that worry button.  I’m going with the fact that this Pacers team should put away the Wizards, and it will be a close one, but I’m calling a Pacers win by 5 or less points.  It would be lovely to get a double digit win, but knowing how this early season has been, a close game is what we should expect.
