Danny Granger Set to Play in Preseason

Danny Granger hasn’t appeared in a preseason game yet, but he should be suited up either tomorrow night against the Cleveland Cavaliers or very soon after that.  For Granger, it’s important to get off to a good start this regular season as last year he got off to a bad shooting start and didn’t seem to pick up two months into the season. Now he did bring his game up a notch come April when the Pacers were making a push towards the playoffs, and if he can do that again, that would be great. But the Pacers need him shooting well at the start.

For this Pacers team, it is Granger’s team.  He will be the most tenured player here now that Jeff Foster is retired. He’s a guy who can score as the team saw plenty of 20+ games from him last season. He could add some leadership to the team along with fellow veteran David West.  Unfortunately, I think his game will plateau soon, but he can still be smart about what shots he will take.

That is where he needs to make some improvement, shot selection.  Back in the early part of his career, it seemed like he took so many shots to get to 15-20 points.  Then again, he was about all the scoring the Pacers had. Now he should have some help thanks to the emergence of Roy Hibbert, the potential of Paul George, the reliability of David West, and the on the floor leadership of George Hill.  There shouldn’t be many times when Granger is jacking up a jump shot early into the shot clock.

If he can control what shots he is taking, then this team will be all the better for it.  He’ll probably be asked to hit some clutch shots, which if he can improve that area, once again, the Pacers will be better.  Hopefully with the full training camp and some starts in the preseason, Granger will get off to a good start, and the Pacers will follow suit.
