Indiana Pacers Preseason Game #4: Things I Learned

Orlando Magic  112         Indiana Pacers  96

Not a lot of lessons to learn from this game since the Pacers never got going in the game.  The Magic are definitely a different team from last year, and I don’t think they will be a playoff team as they lost Dwight Howard and Ryan Anderson, their two best players.  They did get a bunch of guys in return for Howard, but they are a bunch of no names that probably won’t do much this season.  So what can we take from this game for the Pacers?

  • Paul George was looking to be aggressive, but settled too much on jump shots as he went 0-8 from three point range.  George has been the story line this preseason as Pacer fans want to see where his game is going to go. He’s going to be an integral part of the Pacers offense, so I do think it’s important for him to get his game going now.  He can use that to carry it into the regular season.
  • Tyler Hansbrough scores 23 points in 21 minutes of action. If he can get around 10 or 12 points a game each time out, that second unit of the Pacers will be fine.  He’s going to be asked to be a scorer for the second unit, so it’s important for him to get some momentum going as well.
  • Danny Granger and George Hill haven’t played a minute of preseason ball, so we still haven’t seen the starting line up that should start opening night against the Toronto Raptors on October 30th.  That’s why this preseason can’t be a real picture of what the Pacers can do this season.  If this was a regular season game, and the Pacers looked this bad, then there could be concern. But even then, in the regular season, you will have off nights, that is why I don’t think last night will be anything to be concerned about.  The Pacers play tonight, so they can put together a better effort and game against Memphis.
