Gerald Green: Indiana Pacers X Factor

Here is a guy that I am not sure what the Indiana Pacers can expect from him.  They must see something as they signed him to a deal for a couple of years.  He was drafted with the 18th pick of the 2005 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics.

But he saw some limited play in his time there.  He was able to get some highlight reels here and there, nothing of that big significance.  He was playing behind Wally Szczerbiak and Paul Pierce during those days in Boston.

He bounced around for the next few years with stops at Minnesota, Houston, and Dallas.  He actually performed in the 2008 Slam Dunk Contest with a blowing the candle out on a birthday cake dunk.  Still not much was accomplished in his NBA career, so he left for international grounds.

The Brooklyn Nets gave him a 10 day contract last season that ended up becoming a full contract after March 18th, 2012.  He averaged 12.9 points a game, 1.1 assists, and 3.5 rebounds a game in 31 games played.

If he can bring anything close to that average, that would go a long way to keeping him around the Pacers and giving him some playing time with the team.  Maybe those years away from the game, so he could work on his own game helped him out.  It’s one of those, we’ll see what you can give us before passing judgment type players.

But Green seems like an energy guy, and that’s what the Pacers bench can use.  If you can bring him and Tyler Hansbrough off the bench as energy guys, just think how much better this Pacers bench will become.  D.J. Augustin can perform up to a high level, and these bench players could become like a second starting lineup.  If that happens, this Pacers team will do the special things that they want to do this coming season.
