Paul George Should Have Breakout Year

When it comes to the Indiana Pacers, and what player I think is going to have a breakout year, the same name keeps coming around, it’s Paul George.  He’s going into his third year of play, and I think this is his year to put his whole game together.  Last season, he showed some instances of what he can do.  That game against Dallas, where he tied Reggie Miller for most threes made in a game, that was fantastic.

He’s got a good looking shot.  He’s athletic.  He’s lengthy, so he should be able to defend on smaller guards.  He can finish around the basket.  All those are good things about Paul George’s game.  But it still felt like last season, he fell off after the All-Star Break, and wasn’t with the game as much.

This season, I would look for him to be a part of the offense much more.  With George Hill running the point, Hill should give all the starters plenty of looks to get their own game going.  Hill can find those guys in the right places, and Paul George will need to take advantage of that.

I also think this is his time to step up the defensive end.  George is a lengthy guard/forward player.  If he’s up playing against those smaller shooting guards, he’s got to put a hand in their face and alter their shots. He’s got the quickness to stay with guys, so as long as he’s in front of the man he’s guarding, he should become a better defensive player.

George could also become more of the slash to the basket type guy.  We all have seen him finish around the basket, and he’s got the skills to make it there.  I don’t know if he can create his own shot as well, so he would be better suited with making cuts to the basket, and someone can find him open.  I want him to become that more aggressive type player and not always settle for the jump shot.

These are just a few of the things I can see Paul George doing this coming season.  It should be his breakout year, and one that will help the Pacers realize what a great draft pick they made a few years ago.

Who do you see having a breakout year for the Indiana Pacers?
