Indiana Pacers vs Dallas Mavericks: Preseason Preview

Indiana Pacers vs Dallas Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks Off Season Recap:

Well let’s see the Mavericks missed out on Deron Williams and Dwight Howard.  They lost Jason Kidd to the Knicks.  They lost Jason Terry to the Celtics.  The Mavericks did make some moves though.  Getting rid of dead weight in Lamar Odom is a good thing.  Bringing in Chris Kaman to help in the post another positive sign for the team.  They brought in some expiring contracts for next season in Darren Collison and Dahntay Jones.  They brought in OJ Mayo as an ample replacement for Jason Terry.  Also, retaining Delonte West helps in the back court.

The roster is very full for the Mavericks, but what guys will be there when the season starts?  This is a team that always seems to be there come playoff time, and with the additions, the Mavericks should make a run to the playoffs again.  But will it be another short run for them?

Indiana Pacers vs Dallas Mavericks Match up:

This could be a game for the Mavericks to show the Pacers what they gave up by playing Darren Collison and Dahntay Jones a lot in this game.  As the Mavericks roster stands now, I wouldn’t be surprised if Darren Collison would be the starting point guard when the Pacer play the Mavericks.  That would have to be a game he’s circling on his calendar as the Pacers put George Hill into the starting line up because of an injury to Collison, and kept Hill there for the playoffs.

The jury is still out on who the Pacers got in this trade because Ian Mahinmi has been foul prone.  He would probably see some playing time, but I don’t think he’ll make that big of a difference.  Just like Dahntay Jones won’t make much difference in this game.

That point guard match up should be the one to keep an eye on as two guys that are out to prove they’re best for their respective teams go at it.  David West guarding Dirk Nowitzki should be fun to watch.  Roy Hibbert could have a good advantage in the post as he continues to upgrade his game.

This one feels like a coin flip would be the best way to tell if the Pacers win or lose.  They only play twice in the season, but the first meeting is early on in the season.  It’s a November meeting where both teams could be trying to get those early wins to build momentum for the rest of the season.  If the Pacers come out hungry in that first month, I say the Pacers take that first win, and the series come second game in March.
