NBA Turnaround Teams

2012 NBA Summer Forecast

ESPN put together this list of teams that can make the biggest turnaround, and as you can see, the Brooklyn Nets are forecast to be the top turnaround team.  Do I think that will happen?  Not really, but I do think the Nets can push themselves in a better position than 12th place in the Eastern Conference.

People are probably looking a little far ahead for them to say they can be in the top half of the Eastern Conference by adding the pieces they did.  Does Joe Johnson really help the team that much?  Does resigning Brook Lopez help get any more wins? I don’t think so, but a turnaround can happen.

Looking at the other teams mentioned, there’s one big surprise on there, the Los Angeles Lakers.  They got seven votes in this discussion by the panel of experts. In the famous words of whoever said it “COME ON MAN!”  The Lakers with the biggest turnaround?  Isn’t it just expected that they’re going to be good?

Isn’t it expected they are good every year?  With the pieces they have added, anything less than a lengthy playoff run would be a failure. Even though they got knocked out of the playoffs earlier than they probably should have last season, I don’t see why they would get some votes as the biggest turnaround.

Other teams on there include Golden State, Washington, Minnesota, and New Orleans.  My personal choice would be Minnesota as the team with the potential to have the biggest turnaround.  With Kevin Love doing what he can and a healthy Ricky Rubio, this team was going places last season.  But injuries hit, and the wheels came off.

If those two guys are there the whole season, the Timberwolves should be pushing for the playoffs.  I’m on the fence about the other teams.  I think the Hornets are a couple of years away for contending for playoffs.  I haven’t seen what the Warriors have done, but winning only 23 games last season should give them some room to improve.  The Wizards are in the same boat to where I think their players just need some time to grow together, but could reach some more wins this season.

Who is your choice for best turnaround team this season?
